Republican lawmakers are trying to
redraw district lines to guarantee more GOP seats in Congress, all under direct pressure from Donald Trump. And when Texas Democrats saw what was coming, they did what leaders do: they acted.
They got on a plane, left their state, and
sacrificed their comfort, safety, and paychecks to stop an undemocratic power grab in its tracks.
As a representative from Selma — a city that changed the course of voting rights in America — Representative Sewell knows what it means to fight back when the system is being rigged against you.
But these Texas Democrats can’t do it alone.
They are facing:
- $500 fines every day they remain out of state
- Vicious attack ads in their home districts
- Crushing logistical costs for legal support, housing, and travel
