Friend — 10 years ago the Supreme Court ruled in favor of same-sex marriages, allowing gay couples to finally get legally married across the country in the most significant moment for LGBTQ rights in American history. Love won.
But this fall, the Supreme Court will consider for the first time whether to take up a case asking them to overturn that landmark decision.
We have to take this threat seriously.
If you don’t believe us, just remember what happened to Roe v. Wade.
Roe was considered a bedrock legal precedent. Untouchable. Trump’s own appointees to the Supreme Court even told Congress that they believed the same.
But then, in 2022, those same Supreme Court justices gave into the wishes of the extreme far-right and overturned Roe, ending the national right to choose, sending us back decades in the fight for access to reproductive health care, and condemning millions of Americans to dangerous state abortion bans.
So once again, we have to take this seriously. Especially as Republicans have increasingly embraced a far-right, anti-LGTBQ platform that targets transgender people, LGBTQ youth, and public education around the LGBTQ community.
Ilhan Omar stands in complete opposition to this platform, and has a proven record of defending gay and transgender rights as Republicans have put them at the center of their hateful crusades.
She is ready to fight to protect the right to marriage and everyone’s civil rights, no matter what happens at the Supreme Court.
