I’m Congressman Dave Min — I represent the California district formerly held by my good friend Katie Porter.

I’m writing you because something deeply wrong is happening in Texas — and we need to have the backs of the brave Democrats in the Texas House who literally left the state to protect voting rights and fair maps.

Here’s the reality: In Texas, President Trump, Governor Greg Abbott, and his allies are pushing an extreme, corrupt mid-decade power grab. Their redistricting ploy is not just bad policy — it’s illegal under the Voting Rights Act. These maps are being drawn with the sole goal of getting as many Republican seats as possible, without regard for communities of interest, fairness, or even basic decency.

I believe in following the rules. But when the other side is cheating over and over and over, Democrats need to stop bringing a butter knife to a gunfight. We need to fight fire with fire — not unilaterally disarm.

Meanwhile, Texas Democrats are literally putting themselves on the line to stop this unprecedented power grab. They’ve left the state to deny Republicans the quorum they need to pass these maps. And they’re facing huge personal costs — travel expenses, missed work, and the political risks that come with standing up to entrenched power.

The Progressive Change Campaign Committee has been a strong voice pushing Democrats to fight with backbone. That’s exactly what we’re seeing from the Texas Democrats — and I’m proud to stand with them. We can’t let them stand alone.

Chip in $1 (or whatever you can) to each of them to help cover costs for the Democrats who left Texas to defend fair maps — and to send a message to Gov. Abbott, Gov. DeSantis, and every other extremist governor: If you break the rules, Democrats will fight back.

What’s happening in Texas is part of a bigger picture. In Florida, Ohio, and other states, Republican governors are rubber-stamping lopsided, undemocratic voting maps that would lock in minority rule for a generation. These maps aren’t about representing people — they’re about silencing them.

If we don’t draw a line here, they will keep doing it — and keep rigging the system against our communities.
