The truth is it’s been a rough couple fundraising weeks for this campaign. The summer slump has hit us hard, and our fundraising has slowed down quite a bit. We’re getting hammered by attacks — Republicans have spent $2 million attacking me in the last three weeks alone. Our FEC report is due in three days, and we might even miss our fundraising goal.
But, to be honest, what I’m most worried about is the barrage of attacks Republican groups have lined up and ready to go the minute the general election officially begins. I’m talking $9 million worth of nasty, misleading attacks aimed at tearing this campaign down for good.
Look, we always knew we couldn’t compete with the GOP’s war chest of mega-donors bankrolling my opponent. I have no interest in running a shady campaign that depends on big campaign checks and backroom deals.
But that means we’re going to have to work twice as hard and be twice as smart with our resources to overcome the GOP attack machine and win this Senate race.
