Hey John, it's Mark Kelly.
I wanted to write to you about something absolutely un-American.
It’s no secret that Pete Hegseth is not up to the job of Secretary of Defense. He’s firing good public servants, politicizing the force, and undermining both readiness and operational security to appease the guy sitting in the White House.
But this… this is really difficult to accept.
Active duty members of the United States Air Force who swore an oath to their country and served for anywhere from 15-18 years are being forced out of their jobs and denied early retirement benefits because they are transgender.
They are kicking brave, qualified patriots out of the military and robbing them of the benefits they’ve earned in service to our country.
I can’t fathom how I would feel if I had been forced out of the Navy after 15 years for no good reason. It’s hard to believe that anyone leading this country, from the President down, could let this happen.
These servicemembers made a commitment that might cost them their lives, and they’ve served honorably for nearly two decades. To Trump and Hegseth, that doesn’t matter.
But it matters to me. I’m grateful to every American who has spent time in uniform honorably serving our country.
I will not forget the service and sacrifice of these Americans — and neither should you.
Thank you.
