John,
Trump has seized control of Washington, D.C.’s police and deployed the National Guard — overruling the city’s mayor, council, and community. Crime is down. This is about power — and stripping it from a majority-Black city.
When an authoritarian targets the capital, it’s the women — especially Black, Brown, immigrant, queer, and disabled women, many of them mothers, workers, and caregivers — who feel the militarized squeeze first and hardest.
Trump has made it clear: he won’t stop with D.C. He’s using this takeover as a warning to other cities, to show that if he can overrun the capital, he can do it anywhere.
D.C.’s people didn’t ask for this. But they are asking us to stand with them.
