John,
Tomorrow will mark 90 years since Social Security was signed into law. It was a promise to the American people that the benefits we paid into throughout our working lives would be there when we needed them.
Instead of honoring that promise, the Trump administration is dismantling the system we built. He is slashing staff at the Social Security Administration, replacing experienced caseworkers with an untested AI bot, cutting in-person help, and ending most paper checks.[1] These changes will hit seniors, rural Americans, and people with disabilities the hardest.
We have upheld our end of the deal without fail. Every paycheck, month after month, we contributed to Social Security. This program has lifted millions of seniors out of poverty and provided vital support for people with disabilities, survivors, and children. These benefits are not a gift from politicians. They are ours by right, earned through decades of labor and sacrifice.
Social Security is one of the most efficient agencies in government, running on less than one percent in administrative costs.[2] Cutting staff and removing in-person services will not save money. It will create confusion, delays, and hardship for the people who paid for these benefits their entire working lives.
Tell Congress to protect Social Security and stop Trump from dismantling the system we have all invested in.
For nearly a century, Social Security has been a pact between the American people. It is proof that when we come together, we can guarantee dignity, stability, and a measure of security no matter what life brings. It is not a favor to be given or taken away at the whim of politicians.
Trump’s plan to replace trained SSA staff with a faulty chatbot is not modernization. It is sabotage. The SSA handles some of the most complex and high-stakes financial decisions people make. Replacing experts with scripts and algorithms risks missed benefits, lost income, and even homelessness for the most vulnerable.
Ending most paper checks will hurt those without bank accounts or reliable internet. The so-called exceptions process will trap people in endless red tape. Starting September 1, hundreds of thousands could be stranded without their hard-earned Social Security income.
Tell your members of Congress to save the Social Security Administration by restoring its full funding, rehiring its staff, and protecting it from Trump’s attacks.
We have already paid for these benefits, so let’s make sure our representatives defend them.
