Black Lives Matter

John,

Since Trump has taken office he has created disaster after disaster for the Black community.

And before you click away—we know—we’ve been sending a lot of emails on the evil things that he and his regime are doing. But there’s a critical reason: Authoritarianism and fascism thrive in the shadows, and in the silence of those afraid to call them out.

But we refuse to be silent. We'll keep shining a light, exposing them, and fighting back.

He has unleashed the National Guard with abandon to utilize state-sanctioned violence against Black people. He has built a concentration camp in Florida to house immigrants. And last month, he passed his Big Ugly Bill.

Trump’s Big Ugly Bill was a dream come true for his far-right and billionaire supporters. But for everyday Americans and especially for Black families, the negative effects of this legislation will ripple for generations to come.

Here’s just SOME of what the Big Ugly Bill has ruined and thrown into chaos since its passing:

  • The CBO (Congressional Budget Office) estimates nearly 12 million people will lose their health coverage as a result of the cuts to Medicaid.
  • The new law will cut about $186 billion from SNAP over 10 years, according to the CBO. Some organizations estimate this will cause about 1 million children to see food assistance to their families cut substantially or gone completely.
  • The bill caps federal student loan borrowing at $100,000 for graduate students and $200,000 for law and medical students. The option to defer repayment has also been slashed. Black Americans not only owe a disproportionate amount of the national student loan debt, they’re also more likely to struggle to repay their loans leaving Black students in a horrific financial bind.
  • Energy projects across the country, many that help families lower the cost of their utility bills, are now in a chaotic limbo as program administrators wait to hear their fate due to the deep cuts for programs like renewable energy, tree-planting, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure included in the bill.

TLDR: This bill is a laundry list of horrible things.

Black lives are at stake. We need to fight back right now.

The Big Ugly Bill may have passed, but our fight is far from over. We need to do everything we can to block these policies that will harm Black communities for decades to come.
