[link removed] [[link removed]] John,
In the aftermath of the January 6th insurrection, more than 200 companies pledged to no longer donate to the Sedition Caucus—the group of lawmakers who voted against certifying the 2020 election.
CREW suspected these commitments would crumble as Washington returned to business as usual, so our team began tracking corporate contributions to these lawmakers.
And our suspicions were correct, John.
Over time, we found that companies sacrificed their support for democratic principles to political pressures, and resumed supporting lawmakers who tried to overturn the election or spread election lies.
CREW is committed to holding corporations and the anti-democratic politicians they fund accountable every chance we get. Our work has never been more important than it is now, so today, I’m asking you to make a donation today to help us defend democracy → [[link removed]]DONATE → [[link removed]]
Since January 6th, more than 2,000 corporate and industry group PACs have given more than $174 million to members of the Sedition Caucus—and funding for these lawmakers has increased.
In 2021, the Sedition Caucus received nearly $22 million in donations from corporate PACs. In 2023, they received more than $42 million— that’s a 90% increase!
In 2024, they received more than $49 million from corporations.
By continuing to support anti-democratic lawmakers, companies fail to grasp the serious consequences of the Trump administration’s shift toward authoritarianism.
As CREW has warned before: Democracy is good for business, authoritarianism is not, and many businesses are learning that the hard way.
Deloitte, for example, donated over $400,000 to members of the Sedition Caucus. This year, DOGE cut more than 120 of their contracts, worth more than $1 billion.
John, corporate America’s ongoing support for anti-democratic lawmakers has helped fuel the rise of election denialism.
Since CREW’s last report on corporate giving to the Sedition Caucus, six additional election deniers have been elected to Congress—some who have made public statements undermining the legitimacy of the election results.
For example, in 2022, Senator Bernie Moreno tweeted:
“Big tech, the corporate media, and the swamp conspired to rig the 2020 election. Unequivocally true that, had this story been covered truthfully, Biden would have lost Wisconsin, Arizona, and Georgia … thus losing the electoral vote.”Moreno received more than $600,000 in corporate contributions.
Representative Tom Barrett—who, as a state lawmaker during the 2020 election, signed a letter urging then-Vice President Mike Pence to postpone the counting of electoral votes—also received thousands of dollars from corporate PACs.
Rather than holding these lawmakers accountable for harming our democracy, the corporate world has been rewarding them.
Of the nearly 250 companies that pledged to align their political giving with democratic principles, only 15 have stood by their pledge.
CREW is exposing these companies, tracking every dollar, and holding them accountable. We’re continuing the fight to defend our democracy and hold the anti-democratic lawmakers and the corporations that fund them accountable. If you believe in protecting our democracy from those who would undermine it, chip in today to help us keep up the fight → [[link removed]]If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your tax deductible donation will go through immediately to ActBlue Charities Inc. and be disbursed to CREW within 30 days:
