In a recent Senate hearing, Senator Ted Cruz tried to tell me that dark money is a Democratic problem.

Yes, really.

Here’s what I told him about what’s actually going on:

The national Republican Party has been bought and paid for by dark money – and you don’t need to look far for the evidence. Every time I’ve brought forward my DISCLOSE Act – my bill to get rid of dark money on BOTH sides of the aisle – every Democrat votes for it, and every Republican votes against it.

Why?

Because the GOP wants to protect the gobs of dark money the fossil fuel industry and other big special interests flood into their campaigns.

Fossil fuel donates big to Republicans, and Republicans make the polluters' wish list a reality: Toxic air and water? Check. Hobbling cheaper wind and solar? Check. Higher energy prices for families? You bet.

While I’m doing everything I can to get poisonous corporate influence out of our democracy, Republicans block the way.

If we want to pass my DISCLOSE Act, get our government working for the people, and stop special interests from winning at the expense of everyone else, we need to take back the Senate next year.
