Even today, I continue to learn from his example: that empathy is strength, that optimism is a choice, and that we all have a role to play in building a better future.
His refusal to accept the status quo is particularly necessary as the world faces so many urgent crises — from economic uncertainty to attacks on science, data and health, to the devastating impacts of climate change that touch every community, especially our most vulnerable. We know so many are feeling the weight of these challenges, and that's exactly why the work of the Foundation endures and evolves: Addressing the most urgent effects of climate change; Reaching more communities with essential health care; Equipping rising leaders to solve tomorrow’s toughest problems, and so much more.
We also know that the road ahead won’t be easy, and that progress depends on people like you, who care deeply, and act, even when times are hard.
So, as we celebrate his birthday, I hope you’ll share why you keep going and what keeps you hopeful — perhaps a cause that matters to you, or a challenge in your own community that needs our attention. Your voice, your partnership, has never been more important.
