Dear John, Elephants in US zoos are being bred into a lifetime of suffering, and it’s time to speak out.
Whether by forced mating or invasive artificial insemination, elephants are treated like commodities under the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ (AZA) captive breeding program.
All of this is done under the guise of conservation. But no elephant born in a US zoo has ever been released into the wild. And there are no plans to change that.
What the AZA calls conservation is actually lifelong exploitation. These elephants aren’t helping their species survive. They’re being born to fill zoo exhibits and spend their lives on display. Send a letter to the President of the AZA, Dan Ashe, demanding that he put an end to this cruel practice and end captive breeding TODAY!

Elephants are cognitively, emotionally, and socially complex beings who deserve freedom, not confinement. The AZA’s Species Survival Plan claims to protect them, but it really just sustains a cruel and unjust status quo of captivity. For elephant freedom, The NhRP team
