The Acronym is your source for
the latest news, events, and resources from Egale Canada. This August, we're excited to share with you: a Saskatchewan legal action update, research updates, education opportunities, and more.
Update on our Legal Action in Saskatchewan We are pleased that the Saskatchewan Court of Appeal rejected the government’s
appeal and upheld the decision of the Court of King’s Bench allowing UR Pride’s case to proceed.
At the base of this case is a policy that the Court of King’s Bench found – on the basis of expert evidence – would cause irreparable harm to vulnerable young people in Saskatchewan.
Rather than reverse course, the Government of Saskatchewan has doubled down at every turn, using the notwithstanding clause to intentionally limit the constitutional rights of youth, and implement a law that will cause them harm.
We urge the government in light of this latest finding to repeal its harmful legislation.
