The Trump Administration sent the military to our city to lie about what happened here and to sow fear and chaos, all as an experiment and a political stunt.

Now, they’re trying to do the same in Washington, DC.

The Trump administration claims to have sent the National Guard to Los Angeles and DC under the guise of chasing down violent criminals.

So earlier today, I spoke with Rachel Maddow on MSNBC and Kasie Hunt on CNN to clear the air. Right now in Los Angeles:

• Homelessness is down for two years in a row for the first time.
• The City of Los Angeles is on pace for the lowest homicide total in nearly 60 years.
• Last year, our city saw decreases in victims shot, violent crimes, thefts, burglaries, and traffic crashes resulting in death.

Despite what the Trump administration wants you to think, we’re making progress here in L.A.

So, let’s be clear about what’s happening here: The White House is using Los Angeles DC as test cases to see just how far they can go in seizing power from local leaders, in defying democracy, and in rolling back civil rights and civil liberties.

We cannot allow it to go on.
