Hi Full Fact reader,

As further lockdown eases are on the way, we’re still facing hundreds of false and harmful claims about the coronavirus.

Could you help protect people from bad information?

Just this week, my colleagues fact checked claims about a police warning that scammers are going door-to-door handing out face masks doused in chemicals.

There is no evidence of this police warning, nor of this crime taking place. But the more false claims like this are shared and repeated, the more likely they are to be believed.

Bad information only adds to the anxiety felt by many of us in deciding what is safe and what precautions to take.

Since the pandemic began, our monthly supporters have played a huge part in helping make sure false claims are scrutinised and called out.

They’re a true testament to the fact that, for so many of us across the UK, honesty matters. But this is just one of hundreds of claims we’ve been sent in. As we face uncertainty, we need your support to help keep up.
