Donald Trump claims that Republicans are “entitled” to more seats in Congress — and he’s directed GOP-led states to deliver them.
First, it was Texas. Democratic state legislators left the state to block their GOP colleagues’ attempts to gerrymander their maps. But National Republicans asked the FBI to hunt those legislators down and help enable the GOP’s power grab.
Then, Missouri decided to join in. Their Republican governor decided they should redraw maps that better “support President Trump’s agenda” and would likely gerrymander a Democratic representative out of office.
And Vice President Vance headed to Indiana to urge GOP lawmakers to gerrymander their state, too.
Right before our eyes, Republicans are enacting a plan to take away voters’ choices and consolidate their own power ahead of the next elections — just like GOP lawmakers did in North Carolina. This is beyond “not normal.” It undermines how our whole democracy is supposed to work.
Donald Trump and the national GOP want to steal congressional seats and pick our representatives for us because that’s what’s in their best interest. Not ours.
