Dear Georgian,

It was great to travel throughout the district last week, meeting with constituents and businesses that call Georgia's Eighth District home. These visits highlight the great work being done throughout our state and better inform my work in Washington.

We also experienced a tragedy in our state last week at Fort Stewart. Five of our brave soldiers were shot. Thankfully, all five are in stable condition and expected to fully recover. I want to thank the brave soldiers that subdued the gunman and our first responders that arrived quickly and prevented more injuries or any loss of life. I hope you will all join me in continuing to pray for the recovery of the injured soldiers.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Keep reading for the full update.

Sincerely,

Speaking with Members of the Warner Robins Rotary Club

Last week I joined members of the Warner Robins Rotary Club to discuss what I am working on in Washington, D.C. We had the opportunity to have this meeting at the newly partnered Emory Hospital Warner Robins and also heard from their leadership.

Thank you to the Warner Robins Rotary Club for having me!

Updating the members of the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce

Last week, I attended the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce Business at Breakfast meeting. This event was a great opportunity to discuss what's going on in Washington, specifically wins for small businesses included in the One Big, Beautiful Bill.

There are several meaningful changes in the bill that support our small businesses. It doubles business expensing to help local business hire workers and grow operations, eliminates the federal estate tax, makes permanent immediate expensing for research and development in the US, and permanently extends the 199A small business deduction.

These changes have all been advocated for by businesses throughout Middle and South Georgia for the last several years and this legislation finally gives them the certainty they need to succeed and grow.

Visiting Jack Link's Protein Snacks

I was able to visit one of our newest facilities in GA-08 last week - Jack Link’s Protein Snacks in Perry. Jack Link’s is a family-owned business with an incredible story, and we are proud to now have them in our district, as they have just began processing in the past month. We discussed international trade, the availability of lean beef, immigration, and the nuances of Ultra Processed Foods (UPFs).

We are blessed to have incredible businesses in our district, Jack Link’s being one of the newest, and wish them continued success as they employ hundreds in Middle Georgia and continue to grow their operations.

Touring the West Fraser facility in Cordele

Ending the week in Cordele, I paid a visit to the West Fraser facility. This facility is an OSB mill manufacturing engineered wood paneling for residential and commercial construction that employs over 100 of our friends and neighbors.

This visit was a great opportunity to learn more about West Fraser and the industry. We were able to discuss many issues affecting the housing industry and what we can do to support their work at the federal level.

Thank you for the good work you all do at West Fraser.
