Friend — Today we are witnessing Trump drive yet another stake through the heart of American democracy.

By ordering the National Guard and other federal forces into Washington, DC to take control and oversee a completely fake “emergency”, the White House is sending a message that they believe the President can act like a dictator any time and any place he wants.

Friend — We are seeing Trump’s fascist playbook put to the test today:

1) Create a fake emergency. Trump says crime is out of control in DC. The statistics and facts prove that crime is in fact on the decline. Either way, local crime doesn’t come anywhere close to the kind of emergency that would justify the President taking control of our nation’s capital.

2) Use the made-up crisis to invoke emergency powers and take power undemocratically.

Nobody in DC elected Trump mayor, or police commissioner, or even dog-catcher. His only authority comes from the fact that he has done away with every semblance of Constitutional and democratic norms.

Now, the power lays in the hands of Congress to stand up and reel in this lawless administration.

If Congress fails to act, Trump will see this as a success and roll out federal troops in “blue” cities and states across the country. He has already stated his intentions to do just that. He has already used this playbook in Los Angeles, too.
