This ICE center is overcrowded, unsanitary, and denying people adequate food or due process. We're suing.

ACLU Supporter, we just filed another lawsuit against ICE – this time challenging the appalling and unsafe conditions of an ICE holding facility in New York.

The federal building at the center of this lawsuit – which we filed alongside the New York Civil Liberties Union – was designed to be a temporary holding space. Yet as President Trump continues to ramp up his mass deportation and detention plans, ICE has packed people into this facility for extended periods of time with no concern for human safety or dignity.

The conditions at ICE's detention facility at 26 Federal Plaza in New York City are truly dehumanizing – which is why we're taking ICE to court.

Reports from people detained describe 70 to 90 people packed into a room that's only about 215 square feet. People are forced to sleep on a concrete floor next to the toilet in cells that are either freezing or oppressively hot. They've been denied medication, adequate food, opportunities to bathe, and the ability to brush their teeth or change their clothes.

At the same time, the government has banned any means to communicate confidentially with attorneys either in-person or by telephone. ICE has ignored and turned away attorneys trying to speak with their clients in clear violation of due process.

This facility is part of a pattern. Over and over again, we've heard reports of absolutely horrific conditions at ICE centers: unsafe, unhygienic, and unconstitutional. This is our 53rd lawsuit against the cruelty of President Trump's immigration policies – and we'll keep fighting until every single person's rights and basic human dignity are respected.

Thanks for being with us as we hold ICE accountable,
