Friend — Trump is following a strategy used by dictators and kings throughout history: Mobilize the National Guard to carry out your political agenda.
First, he sent the Guard to Los Angeles against the wishes of local officials so he could make a big show of cracking down on anti-ICE protests.
Now, Trump’s sending the Guard into DC, along with other federal law enforcement, to confront an “emergency” he invented. He’s even grabbing control of D.C’s local police force for himself.
Let’s be clear: this is an authoritarian takeover of our nation’s capital. And already he is threatening to do this to other cities across the country.
But here’s what Trump doesn’t get – America doesn’t do kings. We do democracy. And the movement to stop his wannabe-dictatorship is growing stronger every day.
His approval numbers are sinking, protests are growing, and progressives like myself (and you!) are laying the groundwork to defeat the far-right GOP in the midterms.
