This is Adam Schiff. I have some important news to share with you, John:
Attorney General Pam Bondi has reportedly asked a corrupt DOJ official named Ed Martin to lead a baseless investigation against me.
Ed Martin, if you don’t remember, was the Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia. A former defense lawyer for violent insurrectionists, he was patently unfit for that office — or any other — and I put a hold on his nomination, and successfully helped kill it.
Ed Martin is exactly the type of loyal attack dog Donald Trump adores. As Interim U.S. Attorney, he threatened perceived “enemies” of the Trump administration, fired January 6th prosecutors for simply doing their jobs, urged the opening of criminal cases without evidence, and used the powers of his office to deter free speech. Career prosecutors quit rather than follow his unethical edicts.
Before he was nominated to be a U.S. Attorney, Ed Martin had zero prosecutorial experience. Instead, he spent his time defending insurrectionists who broke into the Capitol on January 6 and advancing bogus claims of election fraud. He is close friends with an avowed neo-Nazi, appearing with and praising him repeatedly.
Because of all of that, we were able to stop Ed Martin’s dangerous nomination.
When his nomination was defeated, Attorney General Pam Bondi appointed Martin to lead a “weaponization” task force at the Justice Department to go after the president’s enemies. I was at the top of the list.
And now, Ed Martin is investigating me and carrying out not just the president’s political retribution, but his own, as well.
Thank you,
Adam Schiff
