VIDEO OF THE DAY: JD Vance bombs on camera as Epstein dodge backfires bigly
Oh, JD. You did a good a try! The vice president, along with Trump and his entire Cabinet, are desperately trying to change the narrative on all things Jeffrey Epstein and redirect the public's attention away from the MAGA cult leader's widely documented and deeply troubling connections to the late pedophile. But try as they might, nothing is doing the trick. Here's the thing: the public does not care about the political affiliations of the people on the so-called Epstein list! The public wants full transparency, not the half-baked, cockamamie bullshit Donald, JD, and House Republicans are trying sell us. On the list? Explain yourself. Engaged in the trafficking of minors for sex? Face charges and suffer the consequences of your heinous crimes. We 👏 don't 👏 care 👏 what letter comes after your name, and we sure as hell don't care what color tie you wear. A pedophile is a pedophile, and a crook's a crook. It's really that simple.

Trump vows to evict homeless from Washington, DC, says he will "liberate" capital National Guard troop deployment
"Wannabe strongman with massive (and very racist) axe to grind throws huge fit, does wannabe strongman stuff in nation's capital" is probably a more apt article headline, but we cannot stress the facts enough: Donald Trump's vow to deploy National Guard troops to Washington, DC — to "evict" homeless people (where to exactly?) and tackle phantom runaway crime — is a clear and obvious side-circus show to distract the American public from Jeffrey Epstein and focus voters' attention on Dear Leader's latest performative show of force. Crime in DC, despite Trump's histrionic screeds, is down significantly from 2024, which was already down dramatically from 2020 when...Donald Trump was president the first time. An alleged random assault on "Big Balls" doesn't change the facts on the ground. Oh, and Jeffrey Epstein ain't goin' away!

Vulnerable GOP Trump-enabler Susan Collins has a Democratic challenger
Jordan for Maine: Susan Collins is wringing her hands over Trump’s destruction of our Constitution. She says she’s “concerned” but does nothing to stop him. She even voted against his impeachment because, in her words, he had “learned his lesson.” Obviously he hasn’t, but that hasn’t stopped her from looking the other way while he pillages our government. We’ve got a chance to replace Susan Collins and take back the Senate. Democrat Jordan Wood announced he’s running against her to do just that. Jordan’s a fighter who won’t take a DIME of corporate PAC money, so he needs our grassroots support. Will you chip in to help Jordan Wood flip the Senate and defeat Susan Collins?
Trump goes nuclear on Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman over tariffs jab: "Deranged BUM"
The notoriously thin-skinned MAGA cult leader threw yet another conniption fit, blasting out a signature, late-night, thumb-smashed Truth Social post, this time targeting former New York Times columnist and Nobel Prize-winning economist Paul Krugman for criticizing the president's economy-rattling tariff schemes. Krugman published an article on Substack yesterday, calling "most" of the tariffs "clearly illegal" and blasted the president’s "false promise" that his trade crusade would deliver "a revival in manufacturing jobs." Donald responded the way Donald does...by threatening to sue the Times, which Krugman formally left last December. Okaaaay.

Israeli strike kills 5 al Jazeera journalists in Gaza as broadcaster slams "targeted" attack
Al Jazeera accused Israel of carrying out a "targeted assassination" after five of its journalists were killed in a strike on Gaza on Sunday, rejecting outright the IDF's claim that one of the reporters was previously a member of Hamas. The broadcaster’s well-known Gaza reporter Anas al Sharif, 28, was killed alongside colleagues Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, and Moamen Aliwa when their tent near al Shifa Hospital was hit. The Hamas-run government in Gaza said the "brutal and heinous" attack was "premeditated and deliberate," describing it as "a full-fledged war crime aimed at silencing the truth." Al Jazeera slammed the attack as "yet another blatant and premeditated attack on press freedom." "The fact is that the Israeli government is wanting to silence the coverage of any channel of reporting from inside Gaza," Al Jazeera’s managing editor Mohamed Moawad told BBC World Service show The Newsroom. "This is something that I haven't seen before in modern history."
Immigration crackdown causing "Trump slump" in Las Vegas tourism, unions say
Well, would you look at that? The economy-upending consequences of Donald Trump's incredibly bone-headed and draconian anti-immigration crusade are predictably coming to fruition. If only everyone who studies the causal relationship between hostile anti-immigration policies and the tourism industry had warned us ahead of time. Oh, what's that? They did? Weird!

Department of Veterans Affairs lost thousands of "core" medical staff under Trump, records show
The Department of Veterans Affairs has lost thousands of healthcare professionals deemed "core" to the system’s ability to function and "without which mission-critical work cannot be completed," agency records show. The number of medical staff on hand to treat veterans has fallen every month since Donald Trump took office. The VA has experienced a net loss of 2,000 registered nurses since the start of this fiscal year, the data show, along with approximately 1,300 medical assistants, 1,100 nursing assistants and licensed practical nurses, 800 doctors, 500 social workers, and 150 psychologists. The numbers are at odds with claims by VA Secretary Doug Collins that veterans’ healthcare would not be impacted by an agency-wide reduction of 30,000 workers to be completed this year through a combination of attrition, a hiring freeze, and deferred resignation program. Shocking.
Suspected gunman in deadly CDC shooting blamed COVID vaccine for his depression
The man suspected of opening fire on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's sprawling campus on Friday, killing one police officer, had blamed the COVID-19 vaccine for making him sick and depressed, according to information gathered by law enforcement and sources close to the suspect. Patrick White reportedly struggled with his mental health and had become increasingly fixated on the COVID-19 vaccine as a source of his grievances. Several people who knew the 30-year-old suspected shooter told ABC News they had heard White express similar angry and conspiracy-minded sentiments. Quick reminder: On Tuesday, August 8 — three days before the deadly shooting at the CDC — Health & Human Services Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced he was killing off $500 million in new vaccine development and spuriously claimed — despite clear scientific consensus to the contrary — that mRNA vaccines are problematic because they "encourage new mutations and can actually prolong pandemics." Connect whatever dots you will.
