Dear Fellow American,
What is independence worth?
For Hillsdale College, it means everything.
I’ve written you before about Hillsdale’s refusal to accept a single penny of
federal or state funding—even indirectly in the form of federal or state
student grants and loans.
The reason for this stems from the College’s 1844 mission: to provide the
kind of education needed to preserve “the blessings of civil and religious
liberty.”
This kind of education is rare today in American higher education, for two
reasons.
The first reason is that since the 1960s, left-wing progressives have
increasingly come to dominate on American college campuses—and they have thrown
out the old mission statements and restructured the curricula to promote
“progressive” ideology.
The second reason this kind of education is rare is that almost every college
and university in the U.S. receives increasing amounts of government money—and
that money comes with strings attached!
Hillsdale’s unique independence from government support allows it to remain
true to its original mission.
It also means that all of the scholarships, grants, and loans that our
students need to attend Hillsdale College are privately funded through the
generosity of citizens like you.
Indeed, all of Hillsdale’s work is dependent on private support—and as you
may know, Hillsdale’s educational mission isn’t confined to its Michigan campus.
Hillsdale radiates its educational mission nationwide through its many
outreach efforts on behalf of liberty.
For example, our monthly speech digest, Imprimis, now in its 48th year,
reaches more than 5.3 million households and businesses nationwide.
Hillsdale also produces online courses, and we offer them free of charge to
any citizen wishing to learn. Over 2.3 million citizens have enrolled in one or
more of Hillsdale’s free courses on topics such as the Constitution, American
history, and free market economics.
Hillsdale’s Barney Charter School Initiative, which helps to launch and
provides ongoing guidance to classical K-12 charter schools nationwide, now has
more than 20 schools operating in 11 states, with additional schools opening
each year.
Hillsdale’s educational outreach also extends to Washington, D.C., through
our Kirby Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship and the Van Andel
Graduate School of Government.
Our educational outreach on behalf of liberty has a tremendous impact, and we
aim to expand our efforts even further—especially in this critical year for
America.
And Friend, none of this would be possible without your support.
That’s why I’m asking you to please support Hillsdale with a generous
donation today.
Your gift is vital to continuing our work on behalf of liberty,
self-government, and intelligent patriotism in our country.
You can give safely and securely online here:

Any donation will help us to reach our fiscal year-end goal of raising
$500,000 by June 30. This campaign is critical to Hillsdale remaining in a
sound budgetary position—especially during this critical year of 2020.
With your help, Hillsdale will remain a beacon of genuine independence … and
will continue to work tirelessly to preserve America’s great heritage of
liberty for future generations.
All of us at Hillsdale College are deeply grateful for your partnership in
this vital work.
Best regards,
Larry P. Arnn
