Friends —
June 26, 2015. Today marks 5 years since the U.S. Supreme Court’s historic ruling in Obergefell v. Hodges — making marriage equality the law of the land.
While there is much to celebrate — including the historic ruling handed down by the Court earlier this month prohibiting workplace discrimination against members of the LGBTQIA+ community — there is still much work to be done to achieve true equality.
And that starts by passing the Equality Act today! Join us in calling on members of Congress to take action on behalf of the millions of LGBTQIA+ Americans all across this country by passing the Equality Act today. Click here to add your name in support →
Here’s why the Equality Act is needed:
The Equality Act would provide consistent and explicit non-discrimination protections for LGBTQIA+ people across key areas of life, including employment, housing, credit, education, public spaces and services, federally funded programs, and jury service.
It would also build on and expand existing civil rights laws to explicitly include sexual orientation and gender identity as protected characteristics.
Join us in urging Congress to take action and protect the LGBTQIA+ community from discrimination.
Thanks for signing on,
Washington Senate Democrats
