Quivira National Wildlife Refuge Water Rights | 200 Days of President Trump’s Second Term

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) released an official notice that they will not call for water at Quivira National Wildlife Refuge in 2026. Their announcement is great news for the hardworking Kansas farmers and ranchers in the region who rely on the water to irrigate their crops.

Earlier this year, I sent a letter to Interior Secretary Doug Burgum about the need for stability in the region around Quivira and the Rattlesnake Creek Basin. I’m grateful that his Department is providing assurance to the Kansans who rely on the water for their farming efforts.

Kansans are good stewards of our land and resources, and the federal government should not restrict their water rights. As the process moves forward, I will continue to stay engaged with the stakeholders near the area, push for the protection of the farmers and ranchers by Quivira, and hold FWS accountable for water in the refuge.

Headline: 200 Days of the Second Trump Administration

.This past week marked 200 days of the second Trump administration. In 200 short days, President Trump has delivered on many of his campaign promises. He has secured the border, governed with an America First foreign policy agenda, and rooted out many instances of waste, fraud and abuse in the federal government.

The president’s major legislative achievement, the One Big, Beautiful Bill, will bring tax relief for everyday Americans. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with my colleagues and the president to deliver for Kansans and Americans.

Headline: One Month of One Big, Beautiful Law

.A little over one month ago, President Trump signed the historic One Big, Beautiful Bill (OBBB) into law. The legislation makes the 2017 Trump Tax Cuts permanent, providing Kansas businesses and families with certainty when making economic decisions.

If the Trump Tax Cuts had expired, families in Kansas’ 4th Congressional District would have faced a 27% tax hike, an average of $2,200. Instead, because of OBBB, Kansans will benefit from tax relief through an increased Standard Deduction and Child Tax Credit.

Kansas businesses will benefit from 100% expensing of research and development, a provision that I worked on with Ways and Means Chairman Jason Smith.

.Did you know that Winfield, Kansas, in Cowley County hosts an annual Walnut Valley Festival? The festival is held during the third week of September at the Winfield Fairgrounds and boasts music styles of folk, bluegrass, Americana and others. The festival features more than 30 performers, an arts and crafts fair and more, and it usually has more than 10,000 attendees. It is also the home of multiple national and international championship competitions.
