Hi friend,
I hope you’re staying safe during the flooding that’s affected the Hudson Valley over the past week. In the Hudson Valley and in D.C., I’m continuing to stand strong against the Big Ugly Betrayal and all of Trump’s policies that make life harder and more expensive for the middle class.
Over these next weeks and months, persistence will be key. As Trump and his cronies continue enriching themselves while betraying the trust of the American people, they’re banking on the people getting demoralized and checking out. That’s not an option—we’ve got to stay in the game every day to turn things around. I’m using my platform every day to call out Trump’s betrayals, and I hope you will too.

What’s going on
Hudson Valley
What I’m doing: Trump’s cruel betrayals of the American people don’t just affect people in faraway places or other parts of the country. We’re seeing the tangible impacts right here, in the Hudson Valley. A few days ago, I spoke with Jeff Crist of Crist Brothers Orchards, which has been operating in the Hudson Valley for generations. Between $60,000 of new costs from tariffs and massive food assistance cuts that reduce demand, the orchard is under pressures it’s never faced before. Trump is kicking our small businesses in the shins while claiming to be a president for the people.
What you can do: Repetition, repetition repetition—that’s the only way to break through in a fractured media environment in which everyone has their own source of information. Everyone in the Hudson Valley will feel the impacts of the tariffs and the Big Ugly Betrayal—small businesses, local governments, schools, and everyone who will be affected by care cuts and price increases. You can help by calling out the impacts of Trump’s policies wherever you see them.
New York

What I’m doing: Right now, the Texas Attorney General is trying to force Ulster County to enforce a six-figure judgment against a New Paltz doctor who provided abortion medication, even though her actions were legal under New York State law. Acting County Clerk Taylor Bruck is refusing to comply, citing our state’s shield law, which protects New Yorkers from extremist attacks like this one. I stand with him 100%.
This is about more than one lawsuit. It’s about defending the fundamental freedoms of New Yorkers and stopping out-of-state politicians from reaching into our communities and undermining our laws.
What you can do: The Ulster County Legislature is now considering a proposal to fund legal defense for Acting Clerk Bruck. You can help by spreading the word and showing support for local officials standing up to these extremist tactics.
Washington

What I’m doing: Across the country, Trump is bending the rules because they know their policies are deeply unpopular. From Texas to Indiana, they’re pressuring Republican-led states to redraw congressional maps mid-decade to squeeze out a few more seats. But even a few seats can be decisive in the House.
Let’s be clear: This is what losing parties do. After forcing through the Big Ugly Betrayal. which slashed Medicaid and raised costs on working families, the GOP knows that if the American people are aware of all they’ve done, the GOP will lose big time.
What you can do: This is a fight for our democracy. Learn more about what’s happening, and talk to your friends and neighbors. This isn’t just about Texas — it’s about the future of our country. And we will not let the rights that so many fought and died for be dismantled by MAGA.
Going on offense

Former Federal Trade Commission chair Lina Khan shouted us out for my work in combating healthcare insurance consolidation in the Hudson Valley. Monopolies aren’t good for anyone. They squeeze the consumer and create complacent executives too focused on profit without enough competition. Monopolies in Healthcare raise prices and the cost is peoples’ lives. But we have the power to fight back, and I’m grateful that leaders like Lina have joined me in doing so.
Keep the faith, keep up the fight, and thank you for reading!
In Solidarity,
Pat
