Insider Alert: A new chapter begins at the Safari Park
San Diego Zoo Safari Park
Gorilla - Follow the Leader

It’s the beginning of a new era at Gorilla Forest, and we wanted you to be among the first to know. Paul Donn, a 36-year-old silverback who previously led the family troop at the San Diego Zoo, recently joined the group at the San Diego Zoo Safari Park along with 44-year-old female Jessica. He’s their first silverback since the passing of longtime leader Winston last year.

It’s a full-circle moment for Paul Donn, who was born at the Safari Park to mom Kami and accepted into the family by its generational gentle leader. The presence of a silverback plays a vital role in supporting the group’s natural dynamic, offering cohesiveness for the females and making all important decisions for the troop. On your next visit to the Safari Park, connect with Paul Donn and the rest of the troop as they begin this exciting new chapter for their family at Gorilla Forest.

Gorillas live in the lush rainforests of Central Africa, and they’re critically endangered. Your support is helping save, protect, and care for gorillas and other vulnerable wildlife through our African Forest Conservation Hub. Thank you for being an ally for wildlife, and for all you make possible.
