August 10, 2025

Dear Neighbor,

It’s been a busy and rewarding week here at home during the second week of the August District Work Period. I’ve had the opportunity to meet with local leaders, small business owners, Veterans, and community organizations to hear directly from you about the issues that matter most. From advancing key legislation to strengthening rural healthcare and protecting consumers, I’m always proud to share about the work I’m doing on your behalf.  Continue reading to learn more about my efforts on your behalf last week.

Learning From You:  It was a pleasure to speak with members of the Holiday Rotary last week about my work in Washington. We had a thoughtful discussion about the One Big Beautiful Bill and the many ways it will support families, small businesses, and seniors.

I also appreciated the chance to serve up solutions when talking about the One Big Beautiful Bill with local McDonald's employees and franchise owners in my district last week. Nothing but fries, facts and the future!

Later in the week, I had a productive conversation with members of the West Pasco Sunset Rotary. We discussed the challenges facing their families and businesses, and I provided a legislative update. I’m always grateful for the opportunity to engage directly with our community.

I also had the chance to meet Jennifer Williams, a dedicated Veteran and founder of GPS4Vets, a local nonprofit helping Veterans and their families navigate career and educational opportunities. Jennifer and her team are doing outstanding work, and I’m deeply thankful for their mission and the positive impact they’re making in our community.

Additionally, I was honored to participate in the Citrus County Chamber’s Healthcare for Heroes Luncheon, where I shared a brief update on how the One Big Beautiful Bill will help strengthen rural healthcare. It was inspiring to be surrounded by so many passionate individuals committed to improving health outcomes across our region.

The Policy Work Continues in Washington:  As Always, I remain focused on delivering real results when representing you in Washington.  Currently,  I’m leading efforts to ensure Medicare remains strong and accessible for current and future generations. I’m also working to reform our broken behavioral health system to expand access to quality care.  Learn more about my efforts here.

Fighting Hidden Fees: I appreciate AARP’s support of my bipartisan bill to increase transparency in ticket pricing. I’ll continue standing up for consumers and working to end surprise fees.  Read more about my work to protect consumers here.

Empowering Student-Athletes: My SCORE Act will provide long-overdue clarity and stability in collegiate sports, while preserving the educational mission of our universities.  Learn more about the SCORE Act here

Setting the Record Straight:  As I meet with families across the district, I often hear questions about what’s really in the One Big Beautiful Bill. That’s why I’m committed to setting the record straight. Here's just one example of how this bill helps working-class families—and I look forward to sharing more in the weeks ahead.

Community Connection

I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff who regularly attend events throughout our community, especially when I am required to be in Washington, DC. Through their collective efforts, I am better able to stay connected to the issues that matter most to my constituents. As part of my commitment to developing a better understanding of the issues facing constituents in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties, members of my team attended several events last week. Here are a few highlights.

My team received an update from Tampa International Airport officials about plans for expansion during the Pasco County Listening Session.  The Tampa International Airport is a wonderful regional asset and it is great to see its leadership planning for the future.

My team also participated in an engaging and educational forum for seniors and senior advocates to help spread awareness about the signs and symptoms of dementia.

Additionally, my team celebrated the success of graduates of the Jericho Ministries Rebuilt Program. This five-month recovery program is offered free of charge to constituents seeking to overcome addiction. Services include: counseling, recovery classes, Bible studies, life skills training, work therapy, and employment skills development. The program’s goal is to help participants achieve sobriety and secure employment, with ongoing support services available post-graduation. During the ceremony, five graduates gave personal testimonies and received certificates of completion.  Congratulations to these neighbors and best wishes on your continued success!

Constituent Corner

My team recently received this message from a constituent after providing help with his VA issue.

Congressman Gus !!!! A couple months back in early May, so frustrated with going nowhere with my paperwork I'd long ago, 9 months, submitted to the Veterans Administration, I turned to your office in New Port
Richey. Your Team made sure it went to the right eyes to examine my letters of frustration, and in less than a week, the entire problem resolved, 100% !!!!!!

This  is just one example of the work we do each day. Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office.  The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape. We are here to serve you!

Sincerely,
