I’m sure
you’re familiar with U.S. Senator Tim Scott – a truly outstanding
conservative leader hailing from the great state of South Carolina.
There was a great interview with Senator Scott published in The Wall
Street Journal last week. I finally had a chance to read it, and I
wanted to share it with you.
Tim Scott is the first black Republican
senator since 1979, and the first elected from the South since 1875.
He’s also the only African-American, of any party, to ever serve in both
chambers of Congress.
He’s currently leading the Republican
police-reform effort in the U.S. Senate, called the JUSTICE Act. Our
U.S. Senators, Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue, are both proud
co-sponsors.
The Democrats, predictably, have launched a barrage of
attacks against the legislation and against Senator Scott.
You may
have seen the story last week regarding far-left liberal U.S. Senator
Dick Durbin of Illinois... who described the bill as a “token” approach.
He couldn’t be more wrong, or more insulting to Senator Scott.
I
applaud the Senator for his fearless and determined leadership on this
legislation. Our Republican senators have put together a package of
common-sense reforms that will lead to better policing, increased
accountability, necessary criminal justice reform, and greater trust
between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
Through the
course of this interview, Senator Scott touches on the Durbin
controversy, how his Christian faith inspires his drive to reform law
enforcement, his take on the Black Lives Matter movement, and much more.
He also shares a great deal about his own life story. It’s an
inspiring look at where he came from, and how his family and faith
shaped the man he is today.
He’s lived the American Dream, and is
determined to ensure that EVERY American has the same opportunity.
Senator Scott is delivering a powerful message during this difficult
time, and it’s important that we all help share it.
