News from Representative Allred

June 26, 2020

Dear Friend,

Texas has seen its biggest increase in new cases of COVID-19. The numbers demonstrate that this pandemic is far from over.

I have some good news. After originally deciding to end support for community based testing sites in Dallas, the Trump Administration decided to grant a temporary extension. This is critical as local officials prepare to ramp up testing to the levels we need. As experts have said, we should be ramping up support to increase testing, not decreasing. This reversal is welcome news. My top priority has been fighting to ensure our community has the testing resources we need. Testing remains one of the most important tools to combat and contain the spread of COVID-19. This is clearly not the time to withdraw federal support for testing sites.

Do you agree that now is not the time to end support for Dallas COVID-19 testing sites?

I’ve repeatedly urged this Administration to extend support and supplies to our community so we can have the testing resources necessary.

As hospitalizations due to COVID-19 rise and Dallas County continues to report record-high new cases, now is the time for more access to health care, not less. In the middle of a pandemic, health care, and the security it brings, is more important than ever.

We must each take responsibility to protect ourselves and others. CDC recommendations such as wearing face masks, practicing social distancing, and staying six feet apart when in public, will help slow the spread of the coronavirus and reduce the risk of overwhelming our health care systems.
