Donald Trump just appointed her to a cushy job in the United States Department of Agriculture — in a role that could give her even more power to carry out his dangerous priorities, especially when it comes to our public lands.

Let me be clear: Herrell didn’t lose this seat because she strayed from Trump — she lost because voters in southern New Mexico saw what the MAGA agenda really meant for them.

And now her allegiance to Trump is being rewarded — with a position that directly threatens the lands we hold dear in southern New Mexico.

Trump has made it clear he wants to gut protections, roll back regulations, and hand our public lands over to his corporate allies. And now, Yvette Herrell will be helping him do exactly that.

John, our lands deserve better than political appointees carrying out MAGA marching orders. And our people deserve leaders who put New Mexicans first — not Donald Trump.

We don’t yet know who Republicans will run for this seat — but we know what they’ll stand for: the same extreme agenda that puts corporate profits ahead of our communities, and loyalty to Trump ahead of the people of New Mexico.
