Dear John xxxxxx,

We have just observed the commemorations of the first nuclear test explosion and the U.S. atomic bombings of Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. At eighty years into the nuclear weapons age, nuclear weapons dangers are growing. And this summer we are at a critical moment:

  • The last remaining treaty limiting the world's largest nuclear arsenals will soon expire. Without the renewal of effective nuclear risk reduction and disarmament diplomacy, we are headed towards a new and more dangerous era of unconstrained U.S.-Russian-Chinese arms racing.

  • The recent U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran’s nuclear sites failed to eliminate its nuclear weapons potential but succeeded in derailing promising diplomatic negotiations and led Iran to eject international inspectors. Without a diplomatic breakthrough, Iran could move closer to becoming the 10th nuclear-armed state, setting off a dangerous chain-reaction in the region.

In response, ACA is working to catalyze effective action. Rather than accelerating into the next century with these nuclear dangers growing, let’s halt and reverse the arms race.

By making a gift today of $1,000, $500, $150, $75, or an amount that your budget allows, you will help us make the extra push that is needed right now.

Our goal is to raise $50,000 by Labor Day.

Here is our workplan:

1. Lead efforts to renew disarmament diplomacy before the New START agreement expires in February 2026.

In July, ACA co-launched a “A New Call to Halt and Reverse the Nuclear Arms Race,” uniting dozens of organizations and prominent experts to oppose a more costly nuclear buildup and urge concrete action on disarmament diplomacy.

Days after we launched the call, a reporter asked President Trump about the looming expiration of New START. Trump responded: “When you take off nuclear restrictions, that’s a big problem.”

We are galvanizing a joint campaign to translate Trump’s words of concern into concrete action. Our aim is to elevate this urgent issue to the top of the crowded global political agenda with focused pressure on the White House, Congress, and allied governments to support an interim U.S.-Russian deal to respect the New START limits while the White House and the Kremlin negotiate a more comprehensive nuclear reductions framework. It is imperative that Trump and Putin direct their teams to begin talks now.

2. Press Washington and Tehran to refrain from launching further military attacks, return international inspectors to Iran, and renew talks on a deal to curb Iran's sensitive nuclear activities.

Since the Israel and U.S. bombing campaign on Iran, ACA has moved into high gear to provide expert analysis and recommendations. Our ACA team was cited in more than 2,000 news stories in June alone, and we were called upon to brief members of Congress and allies in Europe and in the Persian Gulf region.

The next few weeks are critical. Without a deal to return inspectors to Iran, European states will “snap-back” international sanctions at the UN Security Council. Iran has warned that this move will lead it to announce its withdrawal from the nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

We will continue working overtime providing analysis and recommendations in this fast-paced crisis. Consulting with key decision makers, we are making the case for a negotiated deal that not only blocks Iran’s nuclear weapons potential but also avoids a wider war and prevents potential Iranian withdrawal from the nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty.

We are deeply grateful for the vital contributions and engagement of ACA members and supporters like you. Reaching our goal of $50,000 this summer is essential to help us meet this critical moment.

Thank you for your generous support.

Executive Director

P.S We also invite you to join us this year at ACA’s Annual Meeting, on September 25 from 12:00 noon to 5:30 pm in Washington, D.C.
