John,

Gerrymandering hurts communities of color, diluting the power of their vote and ensuring their interests aren’t represented in the halls of power.

It couldn’t be more blatantly unfair. People of color made up 95 percent of Texas’s population growth, with Texas’s Hispanic population now nearly as large as its white population. Texas also has three of the five fastest-growing cities in the country.

But look at the congressional map state lawmakers just proposed — diluting the power of people of color and “cracking and packing” urban areas. They claim to be adding a new majority Latino seat, but they’re consolidating the number of seats where Latino communities can elect a candidate of their choice.

All On The Line is mobilizing our grassroots supporters and using every tool at our disposal to fight back and raise the alarm about what’s happening in Texas.

In this critical moment, will you step up with a donation of $15 so we can expose these attacks for what they are — shameless power grabs? → [link removed]

Under the Voting Rights Act, states have an obligation to ensure communities of color are accurately represented by not diluting their votes when drawing up district maps. Let’s be clear: Texas is already falling short on this front — voters have spent years in court challenging the current congressional map. And when Trump demanded a “very simple redraw” that would enable Republicans to pick up five seats, he’s asking lawmakers to go even farther to dilute the voting power of Black and Hispanic voters.

Make no mistake: What’s happening in Texas echoes some of the same despicable tactics that have been used since Reconstruction to suppress the vote.

As Attorney General Eric Holder put it, “Our nation is experiencing the greatest attack on the right to vote since Jim Crow. These forces are not disguising their intent; in fact, they are reviving the very same arguments put forward by those who opposed the Civil Rights Movement.”

It isn’t hyperbole to say that this is a watershed moment for the future of American democracy. Each of us has a role to play in this fight to expose these racist tactics and protect every American’s access to the ballot.

If you’re with us, we need your help today — this fight is playing out as you read this. Make a contribution to All On The Line as we mobilize our grassroots movement to push back against these attempts to disenfranchise voters. → [link removed]
