Texas Republicans want the state Supreme Court to oust 13 Democratic lawmakers and are even trying to involve the FBI — all to force through Trump’s rigged maps. Here’s how we fight back.

People For the American Way.

Friend — Texas Republicans are escalating their assault on democracy.

Governor Greg Abbott and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton just asked the state Supreme Court to throw 13 Democratic lawmakers out of office for daring to walk out and block Trump’s rigged maps. They’re even trying to enlist the FBI to hunt them down. This is yet another power grab and a brazen attempt to silence anyone who stands in the way of their scheme.[1]

Here’s how you can help stop this power grab:

  1. Sign the petition urging Democratic-led states to fight fire with fire on redistricting. >>
  2. Demand Congress pass the Freedom to Vote Act to ban partisan gerrymandering nationwide. >>
  3. Make a split donation to support the lawmakers risking everything to defend our democracy. >>

If we let them get away with this in Texas, no state will be safe from their map-rigging schemes.

Thanks for taking action,

Your friends at People For

----[previous message]----

Friend,

Republicans in Texas are executing a ruthless power grab to rig future elections, and Democratic lawmakers just took bold action to shut it down.

At Donald Trump’s urging, Texas lawmakers are forcing through a mid-decade redistricting plan that would flip five Democratic seats and help Republicans illegitimately keep control of the U.S. House in the 2026 midterms. They know they are likely to likely lose control of the House because of their wildly unpopular and extreme agenda, so they’re changing the rules before voters can weigh in.

This isn’t just a state fight. It’s a coordinated effort to seize power nationally by undermining democracy where they can get away with it.

Democratic legislators are doing what they can to block the vote. And Democratic governors in states like California, Illinois, and New York are preparing to respond. Governors Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, and Kathy Hochul have made clear they’re ready to redraw their own state maps if Texas Republicans push this plan forward.

As part of their defiance the Texas Democratic legislators have left Texas to prevent the legislature from voting. In response, Governor Greg Abbott is now threatening to remove the absent lawmakers from office. And he’s accusing them of crimes and promising legal action to force their return. We applaud their valor and the willingness to fight back.

We can’t sit this out. Here are three easy ways to fight back:

  1. Sign the petition urging Democratic Governors and legislatures to respond.

If Republicans move forward in Texas, Democratic-led states must act. Illinois, California, and New York have the power to respond in kind.

  2. Call on Congress to pass the Freedom to Vote Act.

Partisan gerrymandering has to end nationwide. This bill would ban it outright and protect the integrity of our elections for good.

  3. Make a donation to support the resistance.

Your contribution will be shared between People For and the Texas Democratic Party to support lawmakers who are taking a stand and fund the fight on the ground.

    MAKE A DONATION >>

This scheme is about silencing voters and holding onto power at any cost. But it’s not a done deal — not if we act together.

Add your name. Raise your voice. Support this fight.

In solidarity,
