General Newsletter From the Office of Senator Andy Kim

Happy August, New Jersey!

This week the Senate is in recess, but we are still working hard to keep you informed about what’s going on and to advocate for you, your family, and your community.

Working for New Jersey:

HIGHLIGHTING NEW JERSEY FARMERS' MARKETS:

This past week was National Famers Market Week, and the Garden State is home to some great farms and farmers markets.

You can buy local and support community growers by finding and shopping at a farmers' market near you: https://www.ams.usda.gov/local-food-directories/farmersmarkets

If you head to the farmer’s market this weekend, snap a pic and tag us on social media, @SenatorAndyKim! Here are just a few our state has to offer:

CONNECTING WITH COMMUNITY AT NATIONAL NIGHT OUT:

On Tuesday, our team participated in National Night Out in Salem, Sussex, Union, and Cumberland counties!

We are grateful for these community building efforts across the state and for meaningful conversations about how we can work together to build a safer and stronger New Jersey.

ADVOCATING FOR LAKE RESTORATION:

ICYMI: Last week, we shared Senator Kim’s visit to coastal communities in New Jersey to discuss the impact of increasingly intense flooding and storms.

Like many residents of these towns, we’re extremely concerned about the federal government’s cuts to lake restoration efforts and our ability to respond to natural disasters like hurricanes.

Nature doesn’t care if you’re a Democrat or Republican. We need to make sure we’re prepared for the disasters ahead, and Senator Kim will continue to fight to hold the Trump administration accountable so we can all be prepared and safe in our communities.

Working for you at the Capitol:

WORKING TO STOP CORRUPTION:

We’re not going to fight corruption with politics as usual. That’s why we need a movement that proposes real reform and holds our elected officials to the highest of standards.

In a recent committee hearing, Senator Kim spoke about the need to ban the owning and trading of individual stocks amongst all 3 branches of government.

The American people shouldn’t have to question the integrity of their elected officials, and this is a critical step we can take toward rebuilding trust in government.

Watch Senator Kim speak on this issue here.

FIGHTING TO END SUMMER HUNGER:

Child hunger doesn’t take a break for summer vacation. We can't let up on the fight to solve child hunger in New Jersey and around the country once and for all.

ICYMI: WATCH Senator Kim talk about his Summer Meals REACH Act to end summer hunger.

CELEBRATING NATIONAL BLACK BUSINESS MONTH:

August is National Black Business Month. Every month, we believe it is important to support our neighbors who start businesses and to uplift New Jerseyans who are making a difference in their communities.

Here are just 3 Black-owned businesses in New Jersey. You can find more here, and be on the lookout for the opportunity to shout-out your favorite Black owned business on our Instagram page.
