Friend --
School restart decisions should be made by local educators who are
accessible and accountable to parents.? That's the argument that I
made in an op-ed this morning in the Southern Illinoisan.? You can
read the op-ed here.
You would think that is common sense.? But the Illinois State Board
of Education (ISBE) apparently thinks otherwise.? Earlier this week,
ISBE and Governor Pritzker issued guidance that micromanaged our local
school boards and superintendents, setting group size limits and
requiring face masks for all children two years old and over.? You can
read ISBE's guidance here.
I'm not happy about this usurpation of power by ISBE.?
Micromanagement of our local leaders detracts from our childrens'
education.
The good news is that school doesn't start for another 6 weeks.? We
have some time to make our voices heard.?
If you haven't signed my petition calling for a full, normal reopen
of our schools, you can sign it here.
I anticipate requesting oversight hearings by the General Assembly
and rescission of this policy.? You can "like" my Facebook page here for more updates.
Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!
S/F,
Paul
