Ohio Governor Mike DeWine celebrated [ [link removed] ] the opening of three new re-imagined rest area buildings with ribbon-cuttings in Belmont and Washington counties.

Across the state, Governor DeWine is enhancing the safety, experience, and accessibility for travelers in Ohio, while sharing Ohio’s natural history, historic past, and popular attractions at re-imagined rest areas. New facilities include native Ohio plants, dog trails, rocking chairs, and Storybook Trails, which give kids and families the chance to read a Dolly Parton Imagination Library [ [link removed] ] book along a short trail while stretching their legs.

Governor DeWine, Lt. Governor Tressel, and Ohio Department of Children and Youth (DCY) Director Kara Wente announced [ [link removed] ] nearly $20 million in grants over the biennium to 21 nonprofit organizations across the state through the Ohio Parenting and Pregnancy Program. These grants will connect expectant parents and caregivers to education, support, and trusted local services — giving more Ohio babies a healthy start in life.

The announcement comes as Ohio marks a significant improvement in infant health outcomes.

“Ohio’s infant mortality rate is the lowest it’s been in two decades — 6.6 per 1,000 live births,” said Governor DeWine. “That’s a sign that our investments in supporting families — before, during, and after pregnancy — are working. But we must keep going because every child deserves the opportunity to grow up healthy and strong.”

Governor DeWine's statement on the death of US Astronaut Jim Lovell:

“Fran and I are saddened to learn about the death of US Astronaut Jim Lovell. Born in Cleveland, Jim was a true American hero. His bravery during the Apollo 13 mission captured the attention of the world and reminded us of the importance of teamwork and hope in the face of adversity. We extend our sincere condolences to the Lovell family.”
