Congressman Krishnamoorthi speaks about protecting fair representation during a press conference with Texas Democrats in Chicago. (Click the image above to watch his full remarks.)

This week, I met with a group of Texas state legislators who traveled to Illinois to protest the proposed changes to their state’s congressional map, which would significantly alter the state’s representation in Congress. The legislators left Texas to prevent the map’s passage and to spotlight what they view as a threat to fair representation. During the event, I shared a simple message: Don’t mess with Texas, and don’t mess with our democracy. Redistricting should be about fairly reflecting the will of the people, not about entrenching power. If one state adopts extreme maps, others may feel compelled to respond, leading to a national spiral that ultimately undermines public trust.
Tragically, on Wednesday morning, those lawmakers were the target of a bomb threat at the facility where they were staying in St. Charles, right here in our district. I’m grateful no one was harmed and deeply appreciative of the swift response from law enforcement and Governor Pritzker. But let me be clear: a threat of violence against public officials is an attack on the very foundations of our democracy. We resolve our differences with ballots, not bombs.
Our system works best when every voice is heard and every vote counts equally. I’ll continue working to support transparency, accountability, and fairness in how we draw the lines that shape our democracy. You can watch my full remarks here and read more about the press conference in WBEZ here.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi addresses rally goers in Palatine.
|
|
This weekend, I joined members of our community in Palatine at the Rise. Resist. Rally event, part of a nationwide day of action responding to the real-life impacts of the Trump administration’s recent decisions. With more than 400 events held across the country, the message was clear: Americans are paying attention and ready to speak up and to oppose policies that are putting families at risk. These include deep cuts to Medicaid and food assistance, stepped-up raids targeting immigrant communities, rollbacks of protections for LGBTQ+ Americans, and efforts that could weaken our public schools, environmental safeguards, and access to reliable public information. These aren’t abstract issues. They affect real people who depend on Medicaid, parents working to feed their families, students who deserve fully funded schools, and workers trying to make ends meet. In Congress, I’ll keep fighting to protect these values and ensure every family has the opportunity to thrive.

Congressman Krishnamoorthi on the need to ensure transparency in the Epstein files while denying clemency to Epstein co-conspirator Ghislaine Maxwell (Click the image to watch the interview.)
|
|
On Tuesday, I introduced a resolution proclaiming Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted co-conspirator of sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein, should not receive a presidential pardon or be granted clemency by President Donald Trump. Such a bargain, as her attorneys have been calling for, would not only undermine our justice system, it would also be an insult to all those who survived the child exploitation network she helped create. Maxwell should continue to serve the remainder of her 20-year federal prison sentence, and President Trump should release the Epstein files as he promised he would during his campaign and when he began his term at the beginning of the year. No child trafficker should be allowed to negotiate their way out of accountability. I will continue to call for greater transparency around the Epstein files. You can read more about my resolution in The Hill here.

This week, I led a bipartisan coalition to introduce the Ending Trading and Holdings in Congressional Stocks (ETHICS) Act, bipartisan legislation to ban Members of Congress and their immediate families from owning or trading individual stocks. When lawmakers can profit from inside information or shape policy in ways that affect their own portfolios, it creates a dangerous conflict of interest. The ETHICS Act ends that by barring members, spouses, and dependent children from holding or trading individual stocks, securities, commodities, or futures. The bill strengthens ethics rules, closes blind trust loopholes, and imposes real consequences, including fines equal to or greater than a month’s pay for violations. It also expands transparency requirements from the 2012 STOCK Act to make congressional finances more open and accountable. This is a commonsense reform backed by broad public support, including 70 percent of voters across party lines who support banning congressional stock trading. I’m proud to work with Democrats and Republicans to restore trust and ensure Congress works for the people, not personal gain. You can read the full text of the bill here.

The Congressional App Challenge is the official computer science competition of the U.S. House of Representatives. Since its launch in 2013, more than 50,000 students from 374 congressional districts across all 50 states and five U.S. territories have participated—making it the largest student coding competition in the nation. This competition is a unique opportunity to develop coding skills, unleash creativity, and design innovative solutions to real-world challenges.
I’m proud to announce that my office is participating in the 2025 Congressional App Challenge. Now through the end of October, middle and high school students of all coding skill levels in Illinois’s 8th Congressional District are encouraged to take part. Learn more and get started here.
