Dear Friend,

I hope you are having a good week.

As your elected Representative, it is an honor to stand with you and fight against anything that is a threat to the rule of law and our democracy.

The fight against illegal redistricting in Texas continues. The FBI, Attorney General Ken Paxton, and others are bowing down to the will of Trump. I stand with my Democratic colleagues—from Congress to State House—to fight against Trump's illegal power grab.

As always, if I can be of any assistance to you, please call my office in San Antonio at (210) 348-8216 or my office in Washington at (202) 225-3236.

Illegal Redistricting in Texas

More than 50 Democratic lawmakers in the Texas House left the state this past Sunday and broke quorum in an effort to stop the illegal, mid-decade redistricting effort led by Governor Abbott and Trump.

Republicans are violating the Voting Rights Act and subverting the will of Texans. This week, we celebrated 60 years of the Voting Rights Act and the strong leaders who fought for it because they knew what was at stake: affordable healthcare, clean water and air, accessible education, Social Security and more.

Now, Texas Senator John Cornyn says the FBI granted his request to help track down the Texas House Democrats who are standing up for us. The list of people willing to abuse their power to help Trump steal five congressional seats is growing. It's a threat to the rule of law and our democracy.

Bexar County Annual Military & Veteran Services Health and Wellness Fair

This past Wednesday, my District Office in San Antonio held the 5th Annual Health and Wellness Fair for Military and Veteran Services.

As your Representative, it is an honor to serve San Antonio Veterans and fight for the services you need most. If you or a family member need assistance with VA benefits or services, please contact my office at (202) 225-3236.

Honoring the Lives Lost

Six Years Since El Paso Racist Attack

This past Sunday marked 6 years since a gunman in El Paso murdered 23 people and wounded 22 others in the worst targeted attack against Latinos in U.S. history.

As we remember those we lost in the El Paso mass shooting, we must condemn racist rhetoric that tears apart our communities and stop dangerous people from getting destructive weapons so easily.

The Passing of Leonardo "Flaco" Jiménez

I am saddened by the passing of San Antonio music legend Leonardo "Flaco" Jimenez. He was a pioneer in Conjunto music—receiving 6-Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. He also received the National Medal of Arts and a place in the National Recording Registry for his work. Texas is proud of his legacy. May he rest in peace.

Tragic Shooting at Fort Stewart in Georgia

I am praying for the recoveries of the victims from the shooting that took place at Fort Stewart in Georgia. Our servicemembers deserve to be safe in the country they sacrifice so much for. We must work to end the gun violence epidemic that has reached every corner of our society.

That's all for this week. Thank you for staying in touch and for speaking out. I am proud to represent my hometown and will continue to fight to make our voices heard in Congress.

If you’d like to stay up to date on what I am up to, follow me on X, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Threads, and BlueSky.

Talk soon.

Sincerely,
