The EPA is proposing to gut the 2024 mercury and air toxics standards, tripling the amount of mercury and other harmful metals that the nation’s dirtiest coal plants can release into the air.

Mercury is a potent neurotoxin. Even low levels of exposure can cause permanent brain damage in babies, leading to birth defects and learning disabilities. Other pollutants from coal plants have been linked to cancer, kidney damage, and lung disease in children and adults alike.

Rolling back this standard would be a disaster for public health in Pennsylvania.

Submit your written testimony today to tell them to KEEP the standards in place. 

High rates of exposure and health risks from mercury and other toxic air pollution is a stark reality for many communities in Pennsylvania and across the country that  live, work, and go to school in the shadow of coal and oil fueled power plants. EPA’s proposed rollback is incredibly dangerous and harmful.

These coal plants are often located in low-income communities, meaning this rollback would increase toxic air pollution for the people who are already most at risk.

Make sure your voice is on the record. Tell the EPA: Don’t trade our children’s health for polluter profits.
