I’ve spent my life serving, fighting extremism, and standing up for human rights. I joined the Army National Guard to defend our country and our constitution. As an international law and human rights attorney, I helped bring to justice the man who tortured and murdered Chilean folk singer Victor Jara—whose only crime was speaking out against a fascist regime.
That case taught me something I’ll never forget: when we let hatred go unchecked, it spreads—and people die.
We can’t let that happen here. Not on our watch. It’s time to confront this threat head-on. With honesty. With urgency. And with the same moral courage our moment demands.
