Hello Defenders of democracy,
There’s no denying the last 200 days have been tough. But we don’t back down when things get hard, we dig in and fight even harder. And now, momentum is shifting, and hope is on the horizon. As you read on, you'll learn about one of the small wins in our own state regarding "Alligator Alcatraz".
In the meantime, we've been gearing up for the upcoming elections and developing our game plan to bring in the blue wave. Keep an eye on your email, because there will be many opportunities to mobilize local voters in the coming months.
In this edition, you’ll also find a lineup of events coming your way, from Maternity Services town halls ([link removed]) to ourannual beach cleanup, ([link removed]) the Outrun Hunger 5k ([link removed]) , and even a special Young Dems movie night ([link removed]) . August and September will be full of opportunities to connect with likeminded people and make in impact in our community.
Unfortunately, keeping things looking up means we’ve still got a fight ahead. Governor Ron DeSantis is borrowing straight from the Texas playbook and pushing for a mid-decade redistricting plan. This could silence thousands of Florida voters by redrawing congressional maps outside the normal census cycle. It’s a blatant power grab, but it’s not a lost cause.
Call your representatives ([link removed]) now and urge them to reject this dangerous attack on fair representation and democracy.
