Friends, are you following what’s going on in Texas?
Republicans are attempting to draw new congressional maps in the middle of an election cycle to gerrymander five more seats for themselves.
Why? Because they know they’re losing. Their policies are so unpopular that they can’t build real public support – and now they’re feeling the political consequences.
But Democrats are fighting back. Most of Texas’s 62 Democratic state representatives fled Texas over the weekend – effectively preventing the Texas House from being able to move forward on their scheme. (They need at least 100 of the 150 total members present to conduct legislative business).
These brave lawmakers left their families and homes to stop Donald Trump’s latest scheme – and while they shouldn’t have had to do that, it’s exactly the kind of energy today’s GOP requires.
They try to pull stunts like this? We pull out ALL the stops to block them.
I’m grateful to these Texas lawmakers for taking action, even with the threat of fines and arrest. If you’d like to support them, you can chip in to the Texas House Democratic Caucus here.
