Access to critical health care is at risk for patients around the world. It’s why Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) teams, over 80 percent of whom are locally hired, know exactly what’s needed to care for people in crisis and ensure that their communities are met with compassion.
In Cameroon's Far North Region, limited access to health care, economic instability, and long-lasting conflict have increased maternal and child mortality rates. In response, MSF’s community-based strategy is led by local women known as matrons and mother leaders, who live in the region and serve as a bridge between community members and medical services.
These matrons and mother leaders know how to guide mothers to services like prenatal care. They share information and resources to fight malnutrition. They save lives amid a humanitarian crisis.
This community-based effort is critical to bringing health care to the people who need it most and is often what sets MSF apart in our approach to delivering care. With your gift, we can continue to develop lasting solutions like this—even in the most challenging environments around the world. Make an impact today.
