Indiana Roads Ranked #1 in the Nation
|
One of the government's most fundamental jobs is to provide safe roads for constituents.
With that in mind, I'm pleased to share a recent report ranks Indiana's roads as the best in the nation, with more than 97% of our roads meeting federal standards.
This comes
on the heels of significant investments made by the Indiana General Assembly in state and local roads to ensure we maintain our reputation as the Crossroads of America.
I am especially proud of our local leaders in Senate District 17 who have taken advantage of many funding opportunities to help strengthen local infrastructure. Since fiscal year 2023, Senate District 17 has received a total of more than $87 million in road funding.*
Of that
total, nearly $14 million went toward Local Road and Street Account funding, while more than $73 million went toward Motor Vehicle Highway Account funding.
You can read more about this ranking here.
*The amount reflected in the local road funding numbers
does not include distributions for June 2025 and July 2025.

Huntington Tenderloin Fest
This Saturday, Aug. 9, the Huntington Tenderloin Fest is set to take place in downtown Huntington! Huntington is home the original breaded tenderloin sandwich and to celebrate, there will be food vendors, entertainment, a market, activities and more offered throughout the streets and sidewalks of downtown. There will also be a tenderloin sandwich contest and local businesses will
have exclusive deals for festival goers. This staple is one of the many reasons I'm proud to call Huntington home, and I encourage everyone to come out and celebrate! To learn more about the Huntington Tenderloin Fest, click here.

Back-to-School Safety Tips
Hoosier drivers should be alert as schools are returning from summer break and students are again traveling to and from school.
On a two-lane road or multi-lane road with no barriers between lanes, motorists must stop if a school bus stops with red flashing lights and the stop arm extended.
On a multi-lane roadway with a grassy or concrete barrier between travel lanes, only vehicles traveling in the same direction as the bus must stop when the bus's red lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.
