A weekly wrap of ADL’s reports, updates and analysis on antisemitism around the world.

Editor’s note: This is a special edition of the Antisemitism Weekly Briefing, centered on today’s release of ADL’s new Jewish Policy Index. Other features of the newsletter will resume in next Thursday’s edition.

NEW: Groundbreaking Jewish Policy Index Assesses State-Level Efforts to Combat Antisemitism

Examples of state assessments in the new ADL Jewish Policy Index.

With antisemitic incidents at record highs nationwide — up a staggering 344 percent over the last five years — we need real, measurable policy action against antisemitism. Action at the state level can make a major difference in fighting antisemitism, whether through targeted action, education efforts or public safety measures.

ADL’s new Jewish Policy Index (JPI) is here to help.

It is a first-of-its-kind tool that provides you with a comprehensive picture of how states are responding to antisemitism through legislation, education and public policy. You can use it to identify where your state falls short, understand the steps needed for improvement and advocate for stronger protection by engaging lawmakers and your community.

How is your state faring in the JPI?

- 9 states were designated Leading States, showing high alignment with ADL’s recommended policies.
- 29 states were classified as Progressing States, demonstrating some meaningful actions, but with gaps.
- 12 states were categorized as Limited Action States, showing little systematic action to address antisemitism through policy.
Please bear in mind that the JPI does not measure antisemitic incidents or quality of Jewish life; it focuses strictly on policies in place to address antisemitism. A low JPI score does not mean a state is antisemitic or unsafe; it means that more legislative action is needed and you can join ADL in helping to combat antisemitism.

We encourage you to take two steps today with this powerful new platform.

First, activate the JPI map on the ADL website. See how your state is performing, compare it to other states and see what else needs to be done to protect the Jewish community.

@ADL

The new @FBI hate crimes data is alarming. As ADL’s @orensegal said, addressing it “requires a whole-of-government, whole-of-society response that centers victims and affected communities.” That’s why Congress must pass the bipartisan Improved Reporting to Prevent Hate Act.

Many people may not know that in the summer of 1965, ADL national and regional staff travelled to Alabama and Mississippi to assist the @NAACP’s efforts to register Black voters. ADL has continued to advocate for the implementation and renewal of the VRA and defended it against various challenges. This is just one of the many reasons I’m so proud to lead this organization. Our storied history and legacy of #FightingHateForGood has had a lasting impact and continues to inspire the work we do each and every day.

This is what progress looks like. The Clayton School District is launching mandatory staff training on antisemitism using ADL education materials alongside #NoPlaceForHate in two schools. Real tools. Real commitment. That’s how we build stronger, safer communities.

We released the following statement in conjunction with our Jewish communal partners at @jcrcstl, @JewishFedSTL, @NCJWSTL, @SaintLouisHM, & AJC St. Louis, about @ClaytonMOPD's investigation into a suspicious fire & antisemitic graffiti: As American Jewish organizations and proud St. Louisans, we condemn in the strongest terms the attack on members of our community this week. This is more than vandalism; it is a hateful act of intimidation and only the latest example of what happens when antisemitic and anti-Israel rhetoric are normalized.

The oldest synagogue in Western Canada was vandalized with brazen antisemitic hate this weekend. Those responsible must be found and held accountable. We stand with Congregation Emanu-El and the entire Canadian Jewish community in the face of a continued onslaught of hate.
