** Cold and inhumane: Clinic informs Cavan family via WhatsApp of mother’s assisted suicide
------------------------------------------------------------
The family of a Co Cavan woman who ended her life through assisted suicide at a Swiss clinic has spoken out about the distressing way they were informed of her death.
Megan Royal, daughter of the late Maureen Slough (58), said she learned of her mother’s death via a WhatsApp message from the Pegasos euthanasia clinic. Ms Slough, who had a history of mental illness, had told her family she was going on a short trip to Lithuania in early July. Instead, she travelled alone to Switzerland where she underwent assisted suicide.
Ms Royal, who is seeking answers about everything that happened, also revealed the shocking details that her mother’s ashes were sent home to Ireland in the post by the clinic. Adding to the family’s anguish, she said: “There wasn’t even a condolence card with the ashes, just a cremation certificate.”
Ms Royal, who had given birth just weeks before her mother’s death, has been attending counselling to help her process the grief and trauma she has experienced. “It has helped me somewhat, but having a baby and losing my mother within three weeks - I just can’t explain what that even feels like,” she said.

** HSE’s move toward abortion data transparency is seven years late, but better late than never!
------------------------------------------------------------
The news this week that the HSE will roll out a pilot scheme in some hospitals to collect more detailed data on abortion in Ireland is a welcome development.
That said, this change is arriving seven years too late - something the Pro Life Campaign and others had repeatedly called for back in 2018.
Had proper data collection been in place from the outset, it’s likely that some of the adverse incidents affecting women’s health during or after abortion procedures could have been avoided. While we can only speculate, one thing is certain: the more comprehensive the data, the clearer our understanding of abortion’s real impact in Ireland.
Until now, the Department of Health has only released crude figures - basic year-on-year totals of the number of abortions performed.

** The tragedy of doctors profiting from abortion
------------------------------------------------------------
Abortion providing GPs are making an annual average of an extra €20,000 on top of their regular income. And it’s all being subsidised by you, the taxpayer.
New information released in reply to a Parliamentary Question submitted by Independent Ireland leader Michael Collins TD shows that in the first five months of 2025, an average of just under 250 GPs are receiving an average overall total of €430,000 each month just for doling out abortion pills.
With telemedicine abortion now sanctioned by the Government, a GP doesn’t even need to have a consultation with the woman - a '“second phone call with no content” will suffice, according to one prominent activist and GP.
If complications arise, the GP can say it’s someone else’s problem and refer her to a hospital.
