Hi John, it’s Rep. Delia Ramirez.

Last week, an acknowledgement I made of my Guatemalan roots — and the
pride I feel as a Guatemalan American — was twisted into a false
narrative.

Right-wing forces, including the Department of Homeland Security,
weaponized a misinterpretation of my comments, made in Spanish, to
question my loyalty as an American and silence me as I continue to push
back against this fascist administration.

They’ve even gone so far as to call for me to be removed from my
committees, stripped of my citizenship, and deported — a ridiculous attack
meant only to rile the far-right with false narratives and dangerous
precedents.

These attacks are rooted in xenophobia and racism. Conservatives with
narrow, exclusionary views of America take offense when someone who looks
like me speaks with pride about their heritage.

working-class progressives like me and my fellow Justice Democrats in
Congress, will you help us fight back by pitching in a split donation of

Here’s the truth: my very existence threatens the far right’s white
supremacy.

My entire life and political work – as a proud daughter of immigrants, who
unapologetically advocates for housing as a human right and healthcare for
all, first as a social service provider, then as a state rep, and now as a
congresswoman – has been about uplifting working-class people of every
background. I fight for all of us.

When the right wing seeks to divide us using race, ethnicity, and the
roots we hold dear, I will always fight back. The U.S. is at its best when
we live our values as a multiracial and multicultural democracy, where our
mosaic of cultures represents something new and uniquely American. It’s
something we should be intensely proud of and work tirelessly to defend.
