Here’s your 60-second update on two major moments for OUR democracy — and how Off the Sidelines and Democrats across the country are stepping up to meet them:
First: Texas Democrats walked out to stop a GOP power grab.
Earlier this week, Texas Republicans tried to ram through a redistricting plan that would add five new Republican congressional seats — undermining representation for communities of color and consolidating GOP power.
Rather than stay silent, Texas Democrats left the state and broke quorum, refusing to legitimize the vote. It was a bold, high-stakes move — and it’s working. The GOP-controlled TX House is at a standstill.
Even with Governor Greg Abbott threatening to remove them from office and arrest them, Texas House Democrats refuse to back down.
Next: Kathy Hochul welcomed Texas Democrats — and spoke out for fair maps.
When Texas Democrats landed in New York, Governor Hochul met them with a powerful message: We’re not going to let self-serving politicians rewrite the rules of our democracy.
She’s right . This moment isn’t just about Texas — it’s about what kind of country we want to build in 2026 and beyond.
That’s why Off the Sidelines is supporting candidates who are fighting back against rigged maps, voter suppression, and GOP overreach. But our work can’t stop here — can we count on you to chip in and support our movement? [[link removed]]
