You may remember something I said over and over during my race for Governor: Our state deserves a brighter future, and while creating it won’t be easy, North Carolina is worth any fight.

Last week, North Carolina’s next fight took shape when our former Governor and my friend Roy Cooper announced his campaign for the U.S. Senate.

I can share with you that our team of supporters really stepped up during the first days of Roy’s campaign, and your crucial contributions helped get them off to a record-breaking start. I know that Roy would want me to share his appreciation, as well as mine. Thank you!

As we head into the eighth month of our administration, our work for North Carolina continues day by day. We continue to focus on critical issues like hurricane recovery in western NC and protecting Medicaid expansion, but we’re facing challenges, too.

The GOP-controlled legislature overrode my veto and passed new laws that will harm our communities and make our state less safe — because too many right-wing extremists care more about waging culture wars and toeing the party line than doing what’s right for North Carolina.

John, one thing is clearer than ever: We can’t make the progress our communities deserve without electing Democratic partners to help us in Raleigh and in Washington.
